It’s taken several years of pressure from TV and computer equipment manufacturers but Australia is now one step closer to having a national e-waste recycling scheme.
This follows the Product Stewardship Bill being passed by the Senate last month.
A key requirement of the national scheme will be the need to have industry-wide participation in funding and implementing the service.
This will ensure that no manufacturer or supplier of new TV and computer equipment can avoid collection and recycling obligations.
The Bill is expected to be passed through both Houses by the end of the winter sitting.
