The key to the success of Smart TV in the Australian market is content and Samsung head of audio visual, Phil Newton, said that they will deliver a strong offering in 2012.
“Over the last 12 months we have been working very closely with local content providers and industry leaders to come up with some new compelling content for 2012 and I believe we have done that,” he said.
Undoubtedly one of the biggest names in TV content is Foxtel and Newton confirmed that Samsung will be launching a Smart TV application in July.
“In July we will launch our exclusive Foxtel application on all our Smart TV products. This will include start-up, entertainment, sport and movie packages. These will be available in a linear and in catch-up methods. Later on we will also provide video-on-demand.”
In addition to this, a special Olympics service will also be available for those that can’t get enough sport.
“The kicker for all of this is in July, we will also release eight exclusive Olympics channels to our Smart TV range. We will be giving these away to any purchaser of a 7 and 8 Series Smart TV. This will give consumers all of the Olympics live. This is exclusive to Samsung Smart TVs.”
