
The legal battle between Samsung and Apple over tablet patents took an interesting turn overnight, as a UK judge made the point of pointing out how much cooler the iPad was compared to Samsung’s offering as he threw out Apple’s claims the Android tablet infringed on its design.
Apple, which had taken Samsung to court in the UK over the similarities between Samsung tablets and the iPad. But Judge Colin Birss ruled in favour of Samsung with the ultimate backhand:
“[The Samsung tablets] do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design”
“They are not as cool.”
The ruling follows a similar decision in Australia, where Apple’s lawsuits against Samsung’s Galaxy tablet designs were thrown out by the High Court last December after initially being blocked from sale. The local judges didn’t go so far as to call the iPad cooler though…
